Kitten Care

Feeding: We feed our Ragdoll kittens Purina pro kitten food. You may change the food in your kitten’s diet but do it slowly. You should introduce the new food by feeding a very small amount and increasing it gradually over the course of two weeks. Do not feed a grain free food to your cat as it can give them heart conditions.

Please purchase one bag of dry food .

Litter box
Our kittens are trained to use the litter box at four weeks of age. We use Tidy cat Breeze system.
If changing litter type, please introduce the new litter slowly over two weeks to avoid accidents.

Vaccination
Your kitten will have received two FVRCP vaccines and two de-worming’s before going to new home. Some veterinarians recommend that kittens receive three FVRCP vaccines, which is fine if you wish to do so. Your kitten will need to get the rabies vaccine at 4-6 months of age. Your cat will be due for their annual FVRCP vaccine one year from the date of the last vaccine as a kitten.

Please do not vaccinate your Ragdoll for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) or FeLV (Feline Leukemia) Ragdoll cats are sensitive to these vaccines.

At your home
Confine your Ragdoll kitten to a small room or space in your home with their litter box, food, water and toys until they get used to their new surroundings. Then gradually introduce the kitten to new areas but make sure they know where their litter box is.

Grooming
Ragdoll cats don’t require a lot of grooming but are very hairy. Start brushing them everyday and they will love it plus it will keep the hair down and it will promote bonding.

You should keep their nails clipped. We will have them clipped when you pick them up but after that you will need to clip them at least once a month. How I train my cats to sit for their nail clipping is by picking them up rubbing their belly and working my way up to their feet which I massage. Then I clip each nail. I give them a  foot massage (spreading their toes just as I would if I was clipping them ) each week just so they get to like it. It works.

Scratching
Our kittens are trained to use a scratching post and cardboard scratching pads. We will include a free scratching pad for them to take to your home.

Safety
Ragdoll kittens love their humans. They love to run under foot so please be careful not to step on them. If you leave a room they might run right in front of the door and lay down and block the door.

Cleaning products, disinfectants and essential oils (Tree tea oil etc…) can be dangerous and kill or hurt your kitten as they can be absorbed through your kitten’s paw pads.

Remember kitten must be spayed or neutered at are before 6 months of age no acceptations!
